High-tech food recycling bins installed across the South Korea have led to a reduction in food waste production of around10% in the capital Seoul. According to a report by Arirang News 10,000 containers installed across the city have helped reduce some 56,000 tonnes of food waste in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.
The findings revealed that members of the waste bank have different socioeconomic and pro-recycling characteristics, i.e., attitude toward proper waste management practices, recycling practice.

To extend landfill life, Singapore actually incinerates about 8,200 tons of garbage per day, which reduces waste volume by 90 percent.
The South Korea government are currently contemplating reintroducing the disposable cup deposit scheme to curb disposable cup waste growing year on year. Prior to this, in 2002, the Korean Ministry of Environment reached a voluntary agreement with 13 major coffee shops and fast-food chains to reduce the use of disposable products.
